| Jennifer J. Walker, P.E. Ms. Walker is a Project Manager with Dodson & Associates, Inc., a civil engineering firm specializing in water resources. She has more than a decade of experience in water resources planning and design. Her detention routing experience includes land development, site development, transportation, and public works projects. Her other hydrology and hydraulics experience consists of major hydrologic / hydraulic studies; channel improvements projects; detention facility, channel, and storm sewer designs; master drainage studies; drainage criteria manual development; watershed impact analyses; pump station analyses; and drainage study / plan review on behalf of Drainage District clients. Ms. Walker holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Kansas.
State University and a Master of Civil Engineering with a concentration in water resources from the University of Houston. She has prepared and presented detention routing papers at national and international conferences. Ms. Walker has also developed and presented hydrology and hydraulics continuing education seminars.
| Back to Top | | | | | Are you ready to increase your expertise in detention routing? Would you like to reduce modeling iterations and improve your ability to interpret results? This seminar will address these issues and more. You will also find out why a technically appropriate detention analysis will ensure that your project does not cause impacts. As a bonus, common detention routing errors will be discussed and strategies to facilitate the development of scope of services for detention projects will also be provided.
This seminar is designed to provide information that can be used for successful completion of detention routing projects. This seminar will focus on a preliminary analysis of data (i.e., inflow hydrographs, tailwater conditions, downstream conditions, etc.) to reduce modeling iterations. Attendees will analyze data, develop strategies, and interpret results for sample detention routing projects. Although case studies will be presented for various software programs, the principles taught in this seminar will be applicable regardless of the selected software.
This seminar will cover the essential concepts that are an integral part of all detention routing projects, including: selection of software, outfall structures, basin geometry data (including interconnected and wet-bottom basins), tailwater conditions (including flood plain issues), inflow and outflow hydrographs, maximum allowable discharges, multiple frequency event design, required detention volume, and detention storage rates. Special attention will be given to analyzing hydrographs, interpreting results, reducing iterations, and troubleshooting analyses. Downstream impacts and issues related to timing will be discussed. Case studies and comparisons will also be presented for projects analyzed using HEC-RAS unsteady flow, PCSWMM, HEC-1, and HEC-HMS.
Detention is an essential storm water management tool used to mitigate the impacts of development or to improve existing flooding conditions within a watershed. The purpose of this seminar is to ensure that your detention facility is designed to operate effectively and avoid impacts to adjacent or downstream properties. As a result of this seminar, you will be able to perform a technically appropriate detention analysis to minimize risk and improve the operation and effectiveness of your clients’ detention facilities. You will also be able to improve detention routing project performance through effective project planning. | Back to Top | | | | | - Determine when a simplified detention approach is not applicable
