This webinar-on-CD concentrates on the how traffic signals should be designed and operated to maximize safety for the road user. Up to date information will be provided on signal phasing, timing and detection. The discussion will also include information about the safety of various types of railroad crossings. A variety of geometric layouts for signalized intersections will be shown including the innovative Continuous Flow intersection. There will be a brief discussion on automated enforcement. A variety of recent publications will be referenced that provide very pertinent information on intersection safety. This webinar-on-CD will end with a case study of an intersection where there were frequent left-turn related crashes caused by the design of the intersection. A safety audit of this design could have identified critical aspects of the design that could have prevented the collisions that occurred once the traffic signal was installed.
This webinar-on-CD is designed for transportation professionals (engineers and planners) who work for consultants, cities, counties, and state agencies. This course is designed for individuals with some background or training in designing and operating signalized intersections who would be interested in improving their safety of these types of locations.
"It is a great format. It allows many of us to gather in the conference room during lunch hour to attend the seminar in a very efficient and limited timeframe. The hour length is fantastic. It fits into our brown bag lunch seminar plan."
"In an environment where time management is so crucial, it is wonderful to be able to attend a meaningful seminar with such little ancillary time commitments such as travel and coordination. My compliments. ASCE has found the perfect seminar format for today's busy professional."
