Snow Load Provisions in ASCE 7-02 - CD Seminar (0.1 CEUs)

Snow Load Provisions in ASCE 7-02 - CD Seminar
Course Description
The purpose of the seminar is to provide practicing structural engineers with an understanding of the snow load provisions of ASCE 7-02. Attendees will learn the basis for the various snow provisions – not just the “what” – the specific details of provisions and how to apply them properly, but also the “why” – the potential loading scenarios envisioned by the provisions. As such the seminar will present the research and philosophy that underpins the snow provisions. Hence attendees may be able to address non routine snow load issues that are not explicitly covered in the ASCE 7-02 provisions. The seminar is divided into three sections. In the first section, provisions which are unchanged from previous versions of ASCE 7 will be reviewed. These include the ground snow load map and sources of assistance for case studies, minimum loads, sloped roof snow loads, partial loading provisions, roof step and parapet wall drift loads as well as rain-on-snow provisions. The second section will cover what’s new in the 2002 edition of ASCE 7. This includes the NH ground snow load table, unbalanced loads for gable roofs and finally sliding loads. The final section of the seminar will be devoted to frequently asked questions. Specifically various approaches to alleviate the problem of drift loads adjacent to a new, taller, addition will be discussed. The seminar will conclude with questions from the audience.

Comments on Webinar

"It is a great format. It allows many of us to gather in the conference room during lunch hour to attend the seminar in a very efficient and limited timeframe. The hour length is fantastic. It fits into our brown bag lunch seminar plan."

"In an environment where time management is so crucial, it is wonderful to be able to attend a meaningful seminar with such little ancillary time commitments such as travel and coordination. My compliments. ASCE has found the perfect seminar format for today's busy professional."
