Although many agencies have been using traffic calming strategies for many years, the results have been mixed. This is because a lot of agencies failed to put into place a comprehensive set of procedures for process requests from the public to address neighborhood traffic management issues. The first part of this two-part series provides information on how to establish a neighborhood traffic management process including the development of a manual, how this process should be administered, the issues involving the primary stakeholders, and where the pitfalls lie. The second part focuses on a case study and describes the backlash that occurred from poorly thought out traffic calming installations. Participants receive a handout summarizing the presentation including a list of references.
"It is a great format. It allows many of us to gather in the conference room during lunch hour to attend the seminar in a very efficient and limited timeframe. The hour length is fantastic. It fits into our brown bag lunch seminar plan."
"In an environment where time management is so crucial, it is wonderful to be able to attend a meaningful seminar with such little ancillary time commitments such as travel and coordination. My compliments. ASCE has found the perfect seminar format for today's busy professional."
